Recently, CIB has expanded the application scenarios of E-CNY, allowing individual users to earn carbon credits. Users who open a verified CIB Wallet, or those with a CIB Card linked to an anonymous CIB Wallet, can earn personal carbon account points by completing E-CNY transactions through the CIB Mobile Banking APP. Currently, CIB’s personal carbon account point system covers various scenarios, including utility payments, fund purchases, and credit card repayments.
“The integration of the E-CNY system with the carbon account system represents a significant innovation in China’s financial sector, supporting the development of the digital economy and green initiatives, and serving national strategies. The fusion of E-CNY with personal carbon accounts can create synergistic effects, enhancing both systems and contributing to the establishment of a green consumption ecosystem and a new E-CNY landscape,” said a representative from CIB’s E-CNY department.
As a leader in domestic Green Banking and a designated operator of E-CNY, CIB has continuously promoted the integration of E-CNY with Green Banking businesses in recent years, broadening the application scenarios of E-CNY in the green finance sector. For instance, in Fuzhou, CIB facilitated the first transaction in Fujian Province for purchasing marine fishery carbon credits using E-CNY. In Suzhou, CIB innovatively introduced a carbon-inclusive income pledge model, issuing over 7 billion RMB in green finance loans using E-CNY. As of now, CIB has opened nearly 7.3 million E-CNY wallets, with transaction amounts exceeding 300 billion RMB.
